Company History

Serving South Island for over 30 Years

David Browne immigrated to New Zealand from the UK to carry out work under contract as a gas fitter and heating engineer. After two years he saw the opportunity to go into business for himself, so he started up his own company – David Browne Contractors Limited.

When the popularity of gas services diminished, the company diversified into mechanical services such as air conditioning, plumbing, heating and ventilation for commercial and industrial projects. The company worked as a subcontractor to builders.

With a resurge in gas' popularity, the company retained it's expertise in that area. Gas Engineering Services is a David Browne Contractors subsidiary company. This company designs, installs, and maintains systems for all the major gas supply companies throughout the South Island including Ongas and Rockgas Limited.

David Browne Contractors are based in Christchurch, although send specialists all around the South Island for jobs and servicing. We try to employ local labouring staff where possible. The business remains proudly Canterbury owned and operated in an industry dominated by large multinational corporations.

We have regular clients for whom we do general mechanical work and services for in their plants on a regular basis. In these cases, we do any project work which they may require. We have a wide base of Consultancy firms which invite us to tender for the work they are involved with. David Browne Contractors also register their interest to tender for work within our field with various Contracting Firms operating in the South Island.

Today, David Browne Contractors works in conjunction with the other companies of the David Browne Group such as:
